Sept. 2019 - Feb. 2020

Maskot is a campus event and group management platform. We took the best parts of Outlit, and bundled it into an enterprise platform that universities can deploy on campus for students.

BACKGROUND

After running successful trials of Outlit on the MIT campus, we approached the Student Affairs office to ask what their needs were. After interviewing representatives from other universities, we decided to make Maskot.

OBJECTIVES

> Create an enterprise platform for universities to manage events and groups on campus.
> Engineer a campus engagement app that provides value to the students attending and hosting events.
> Prove revenue model.
THE PRODUCT
PHASE 1

Map

Displaying event information geographically is crucial to hyperlocal insight. It's valuable to an event-goer planning their day, and to students that want to see the hot spots on campus. Knowing an event is taking place just next door is sometimes enough to boost attendace and campus engagement.

PHASE 2

Calendar

Students are busy people. With classwork, extracurriculars, and having a social life, it seems as though there isn't time to sleep. We a social campus calendar that automatically populates with relevant information so students are always in the know.

PHASE 3

Social Equity

University groups gamify campus engagement with swag and competitions. They already operate on an unofficial form of social equity, and it's important to them that this translate over to a campus social media platform. By rewarding students with points for joining groups, attending events, and hosting events, they can compete for the top spots on campus!

The Strategy

Before Covid-19 hit, we were planning a trial of Maskot on the MIT campus signing up several varsity sports teams and Fraternities. This would overcome the chicken and egg model by automatically populating the platform with valuable insights for students. Based on campus engagement, we could then strategize if whether app improvements were the priority, or starting to build out the insights portal.

DELIVERABLES

> Campus group and event management mobile app.
> Strong university branding to appeal to students.
> Clean intuitive interface for event and group discovery and engagement.

NEXT STEPS

> Build out student insights portal to better manage group/event engagement.
> Test app on a university campus with dedicated groups as early adopters to populate information.
> Create university management portal to be able to monitor student engagement campus-wide.
